Commisioner of Social Equality at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Services

Professional background

At the end of 2015 Mariam appointed as the new Commisioner of Social Equality at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Servicess. Prior to that, between the years 2010-2015, Mariam has served as the Regional commissioner for Haifa and Northern districts, at the Equal Employment Opportunities commission (EEOC) of the Ministry of Economy. The EEOC aims to provide solutions for the challenges that arise in all issues relating to the enforcement of equality laws.Between the years 1999-2010, Mariam worked as a partner at a private law office in Haifa that dealt with a variety of areas of commercial, civil and administrative law. Mariam has worked as an attorney in the fields of tort law and security law. Earlier, Mariam worked as an attorney in the Meir Barak Law Office, mostly in the field of tort law and security law.During her studies, Mariam served as a PERACH Foundation Coordinator and managed a network of 60 students, who volunteered as tutors and mentors for elementary school students and children of prisoners.

Education

Mariam holds a Bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Haifa. She participated in various courses and programs in leadership; the Leadership Training program “X-change for Competence” (shared by the German-Israeli Future Forum and the Bertelsmann Foundation), the “Twinning” project by the European Union and the Leadership Development course run by the Ministry of Finance.
