Eshel grew up at Kibbutz Hatzerim and lives in Tel Aviv. He is married to Dafna, a clinical psychologist, and is the father of three sons. In his free time, he has to balance the extensive sitting he does at work with walking or riding trips, swimming or other outdoor activities.
Eshel holds a master’s in education system administration, and a bachelor's in general history and philosophy – both from Tel Aviv University. Additionally, he has a teaching certificate. He wrote his master’s thesis on guiding group trips to Poland (a component of many Israeli high school programs).
